Hi Shruthi, tell us more about yourself.

I am a Singaporean who has called this vibrant country home for the past 15 years. My academic journey began in India and continued at an international school in Saudi Arabia, where I was proud to serve as the captain of the Middle School Girls’ Throw Ball team. Later, I pursued a degree in Computer Science Engineering in Kerala, India.

Professionally, I started my career with deugro, a renowned German logistics firm, where I gained valuable experience in the logistics sector. Following this, I was seconded to an oil and gas company in the UAE, further expanding my expertise in managing complex projects within the energy sector. After moving to Singapore, I worked with firms like DHL and Grundfos (through a subcontract with DHL), and contributed to the SME Centre under the Singapore Ministry of Trade before joining GESS.

These diverse roles have shaped my adaptability, leadership skills, and passion for fostering growth. In addition to these corporate roles, I also ventured into entrepreneurship by running my own events company for seven years. This experience not only honed my organisational skills but also allowed me to explore my creative side. However, post-COVID, I decided to transition away from this venture and focus on new opportunities. Before joining GESS, I leveraged these diverse experiences to develop a strong foundation in management, leadership, and innovation. Now, I am excited to contribute my skills and passion to the GESS community.

We know you have been a part of our GESS team for a while. How long have you been here, and what are you currently handling?

I have been part of the GESS family for almost two years under the Operations team. My inital role had been as the Programme Coordinator for the Instrument with Class (IWC) initiative, managing String and Wind Instruments programmes for Grades 3, 5 and 6.

Eager to expand my contributions, I also took on overseeing Music CCAs shortly after joining GESS. This allowed me to blend my organisational skills with my passion for music education, ensuring students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

What made you take up the role as CCA and ACSIS Manager effective from April 2025? How different do you feel this is from your current work scope, and what are you looking forward to contributing to the new team?

Stepping into this new role from April 2025 is an exciting milestone for me. It offers an incredible opportunity to deepen my involvement in GESS’ CCA programme while engaging with other international schools in Singapore through ACSIS initiatives.

This role presents both challenges and opportunities that align with my career growth aspirations. I look forward to enriching student experiences by fostering collaboration across schools and ensuring that our CCAs continue to inspire creativity, teamwork, and excellence.

What are some challenges you foresee in this new role at GESS, and how would you overcome them?

Challenges are an essential part of growth—they keep us motivated and engaged. While stepping into a role previously held by a highly capable colleague (Imke who is leaving Singapore with her family!) might seem daunting, I view it as an opportunity to build upon a well-established foundation.

My approach will focus on maintaining open communication with stakeholders, leveraging my organisational skills, and staying adaptable to ensure smooth transitions while introducing fresh ideas.

Finally, what do you like about working at GESS?

GESS stands out for its warmth and cultural inclusivity—a true embodiment of diversity. The school fosters a productive work environment that encourages collaboration and innovation for the benefit of our students.

I deeply appreciate how GESS remains open to new ideas aimed at enhancing student development. This flexibility empowers staff members like me to initiate meaningful changes that contribute to the growth of our dynamic school community.
