STUDENT SPOTLIGHT – Everett of GESS Wildcats Football Team

Everett in Grade 6 is a member of our GESS Wildcats football team. All our boys made it to Division 1 in ACSIS 2025, celebrating another milestone for our talented and passionate students. We chat with him on his life at GESS.

Hi Everett, could you introduce yourself to our readers, and tell us how long you have been in GESS?

I have been at GESS for three years now and currently a Grade 6 student. I moved from Russia to Singapore in 2022. I enjoy playing football and games a lot in my free time, and aspire to be a professional footballer in future.

We know you are an active member of GESS Wildcats football team. Do you participate in other sports and non-sports activities – if yes, what are they?

I do not do any other sports activities as football is my number one priority and is my only interest now. I also train everyday so I do not have time for other activities, except for video games and hanging out with friends.

We know your football team made it to Division 1 at ACSIS this year. Tell us more about it! What was the training like? What did you find tough and challenging? What did you enjoy about it? And how did you feel when your team made it?

Our training was always done around game-realistic drills that helped prepare us for our matches, which was hard but also fun. I really enjoy winning as I believe we deserved it, and I like celebrating with my friends. The most challenging thing was the heat because I play midfield so I need to run a lot, which is so tiring in this weather. It was a great feeling when we made it and the team was very happy. We are lucky to have a good coach who supports us and motivates us to play better.

You are currently in Grade 6. How do you manage all your commitments in middle school? How do you feel it is different from primary school?

My commitments are manageable for me as middle school isn’t very different compared to what I expected it to be, so I am able to make time for each commitment. I do this by always doing my homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when I have a little more free time after school, so I am able to finish all my homework. I think this has helped me to have better time management.

What is the one thing you enjoy most about your learner’s life at GESS? And one thing you wish you have more time to do?

I enjoy being able to work with my friends because it helps me get through classes and helps me learn. This is why I would wish to be able to work with my friends more. I especially like math because I have a very good teacher and we have free seating that makes it less boring.

To fellow schoolmates who are not already pursuing their passion and cultivating talents at GESS, what would be your word of advice how they can best enjoy their learning journey here?

Just put time and energy into whatever you think is fun, or try activities that your friends do and it might turn out fun for you while learning a lot.
