Selina is among the Class of 2025 graduates and started being involved in content creation even before GESS Student Media Makers came about. We chat with her on her busy final year and plans ahead.

Hi Selina, could you introduce yourself to our readers, and tell us how long you have been in GESS?
Hello, my name is Selina and I’m among this year’s graduates. I was at GESS for 3.5 years, since mid 9th grade.
We know you are an active GESS Student Media Maker, can you share with our readers why you decided to get involved, and what you got busy with to create content for the school?
I was fairly lucky as I knew someone in the Extcomms Team prior to getting involved and it was truly something that interested me. I was actively managing the school’s TikTok channel for two years and this past school year, I became a member of GSMM too. What I focused on when creating content was ongoing trends on TikTok, especially what works among international schools, in order to boost the activity on our account. It was so much fun as my whole grade was always willing to contribute and we had a community with fellow GSMMs.

What else do you enjoy doing, in and out of school? Are you involved in other groups or activities at GESS – if yes, what are some of them?
I’m not really involved in any other activities at GESS other than content creation. In Grade 11, I was head of a committee, but that’s pretty much it. In my free time though, I like to do Muay Thai, lift and attend spinning classes.
You are among this year’s graduates. How was Grade 12 for you? Were the opportunities presented by BeyondClassrooms helpful for you to think about your future pathways?nt from primary school?
I’ve enjoyed the BeyondClassrooms programme a lot, as well as university guidance and counselling and expert talks. All these helped me realise what options I have and paths I now need to take in order to pursue certain occupations. Overall, I benefitted a lot in Grade 12 as the focus was on helping me figure out the right paths and getting counselling for that, for example through the university fairs.

What will you be engaged in after the school year and your GESS journey?
I will next study International Business in Paris in English, starting in September, at a university that is well ranked with a curriculum I really like. I’m really looking forward to that as this will help me improve my French (which is not too good at the moment).
Finally, what do you think you will miss most about GESS?
What I’ll miss most is probably Grade 12 German section. Judging by our presence on the official school social media accounts, we were such a cool grade and I’ve made such amazing memories with my friends. These were essentially the people who helped me make it to each Friday every week.
