After months of preparation and before AY2024/25 comes to a close, GESS is honoured to host the 16th edition of SEA Games for German-speaking Schools. As fourth time host and having won eight previous runs, we take a look at the event that took place from 8-11 June.
Opening Ceremony
Welcoming fellow German-speaking schools from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, New Delhi and Thailand, we convened at GESS for a spectacular kickoff to the 16th edition of SEAG. Starting at our sports block, the teams made their way to the forum with national flags flying high, to the cheers and high energy of our GESS community — complete with festive drums!
Ending the parade at our auditorium, audiences were treated to performances, after speeches made by Her Excellency Dr. Bettina Fanghänel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Claudia Harding, Honorary Treasurer of GESS’ Board of Governors and Christiane Kübler, Director of High School.
The Real Competition In Action
Over four adrenaline-packed days, the six schools put up some fierce but healthy competition and true sportsmanship in volleyball, swimming, athletics and football! What really moved us was not only the dedication and professionalism of the teams involved, but also the sportsmanship, teamwork and support for one another, across schools and nations.
Closing Ceremony
After four days of intensive competition, camaraderie and celebrations, the 16th SEAG was concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony at GESS. All-Stars & Best Athletes were recognised for their outstanding performances, and final rankings were announced – with GESS taking the hot seat of champion this year!
We now pass the torch to Bangkok who will host SEAG in 2027.
